The Ramayana

The beloved epic Ramayana recounts the story of Rama, his wife Sita, brothers and devotees, particularly the monkey god Hanuman. Poet and novelist R.K. Narayan exhorts that “The Ramayana has…been the largest source of inspiration for the poets of India throughout the centuries.” The story exists in many forms, written by many authors and contains immense and timeless wisdom. Tamilian poet Kamban, whose version dates to the 11th century wrote “I am verily like the cat sitting on the edge of an ocean of milk, hoping to lap it all up.”
