About the class: Introduction to Ashtanga

This class derives its foundational sequencing from Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga, as taught by Sri T. Krishnamacharya and later developed by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. Vinyasa is a fluid practice, linking one posture to next through breath and movement. The use and control of the breath (pranayama) is emphasized in this practice as it leads the practitioner to a deeper level of concentration (dharana) allowing the practice to become a moving meditation (dhyana). Students will learn about the fundamentals of Ashtanga, get an introduction to yogic philosophy and the postures (asana) of the primary series. While Ashtanga is a vigorous practice, building strength, endurance and flexibility, the pace of this class allows for the use of props and modifications, making it accessible to students of all levels. Beginners welcome!
