Zoom Gaṇesha Pooja
Lord Gaṇesha is the elephant-headed son of Goddess Pārvati and Lord Shiva. He is worshipped as the God of wisdom, prosperity, and good fortune. He is said to have an affinity for sweets, and his vehicle is the mouse. His many names include Ganapathi, Vinaayaka, and Vighneshwara. As Lord Gaṇesha is considered the remover of all obstacles, Hindus will pray to Gaṇesha before starting any endeavor.

SHAANTI MANTRA (Prayer for Peace)
(Chanted once in unison)
aum saha naa vavatu
saha nau bhunaktu
saha veeryam karavaavahai
tejasvinaa vadheetam astu maa vidviṣhaavahai
aum shaantiḥ shaantiḥ shaantiḥ
hariḥ aum
May Brahman protect us, may we dine together, let us work together with great energy, let us illumine together, let us live in harmony.
May there be peace.
PRELIMINARY PRAYERS
(For all, chanted once in unison)
shuklaambaradharam viṣhṇum
shashi varṇam chatur bhujam
prasanna vadanam dhyaayet
sarva vighnopashaantaye
We meditate upon the Lord (Gaṇesha) who is clad in white, omnipresent, bright as the moon, four-armed, and cheerful, to remove all obstacles.
agajaanana padmaarkam
gajaananam aharnisham
aneka dam tam bhaktaanaam
ekadantam upaasmahe
We meditate upon the elephant-faced Lord who continually brightens the lotus-face of Pārvati; the Lord who has only one tusk but gives multiples blessings to His devotees.
sarva mangala maangalye
shive sarvaartha saadhike
sharaṇye tryambake devi
naaraayaṇi namostute
Salutations to You, O Nārāyaṇi, who are the auspiciousness in all the auspicious, auspiciousness Herself and complete with all the auspicious attributes; the giver of refuge, with three eyes and a shining face.
GURU VANDANA
guru brahmaa gurur viṣhṇu
guru devo maheshwaraḥa
guru saakshaat parabrahma
tasmai shree guruve namaḥa
We offer salutations to the preceptor (guru) who is verily Brahma, Viṣhṇu and Shiva, who personifies the Supreme Being.
nidhaye sarva vidyaanaam
bhiṣhaje bhava rogiṇaam
gurave sarva lokaanaam
dakshiṇaamoortaye namaḥa
Salutations to the Lord of the Southern direction (Shiva), who is the treasure house of all knowledge, the doctor to those afflicted by the disease of birth and death, and the teacher of the entire world.
aum namaḥ praṇavaarthaaya
shuddha gnyaanaika moortaye
nirmalaaya prashaantaaya
dakshiṇaamoortaye namaḥa
I salute the Lord of the Southern direction (Shiva) who is the embodiment of ‘Aum’, of pure knowledge, and of eternal peace.
SANKALPAḤ (Declaration)
(chanted once in unison)
mamopaatta samasta duritakshaya dvaara
shree parameshwara preetyartham
shree vighneshvara poojaam kariṣhye
For the removal of sins and the joy of the Lord, I worship Vighneshwara.
SHUDDHI (Cleansing)
(each verse chanted once in unison)
Water is poured into a smaller vessel, invoking sacred rivers.
gangecha yamunechaiva
godaavari saraswati
narmadaa sindhu kaaveri
jale’smin sannidhim kuru
O Ganga, Yamuna, Godāvari, Saraswati, Narmada, Indus and Kāveri waters, please present yourselves in this holy place.
The hands are cleansed with an uddhariṇa of water.
apavitraḥ pavitrovaa
sarvaavasthaam gatopivaa
yaḥ smaret puṇḍareekaaksham
saḥ baahyaabhyantara shuchiḥ
May anything unholy become holy, may all lower tendencies depart us; cleansing both inside and out, we remember the lotus-eyed (Viṣhṇu).
VIGHNESHVARA DHYAANAM (Contemplation of Gaṇesha)
(chanted once in unison)
gajaananam bhoota-gaṇaadi-sevitam
kapittha jambu phala-saara-bhakshitam
umaa-sutam shoka-vinaasha-kaaraṇam
namaami vighneshvara paada-pankajam
I prostrate to the lotus-feet of Lord Vighneśvara, the son of Pārvatī, the one who destroys all suffering; who is served by the Host of Bhūtas, who has the face of an elephant, and who partakes of the essence of the wood apple and rose apple fruits.
GAṆESHA STAVAH (Hymn to Gaṇesha)
(sung once in unison)
ajam nirvikalpam niraakaaram-ekam
niraanandam-aanandam-advaita-poorṇam
param nirguṇam nirvisheṣham nireeham
parabrahma-roopam gaṇesham bhajema (x2)
We worship the unborn, unchanging, formless, the one beyond bliss and full of bliss, who is the fullness of non-duality, the supreme, devoid of qualities, without differences, and beyond desire, Shree Gaṇesha, the Supreme Brahman personified.
guṇaateetamaanam chid-aananda-roopam
chid-aabhaasakam sarvagam gnyaana-gamyam
muni-dhyeyam-aakaasha-roopam paresham
parabrahma-roopam gaṇesham bhajema (x2)
We worship the one beyond the guṇas, the embodiment of bliss consciousness, the light of consciousness, the all-pervading, who is the source, course, and goal of knowledge, whom the sages meditate upon, who is formless as ākāsha, the highest Lord, Shree Gaṇesha, the Supreme Brahman personified.
jagat-kaaraṇam kaaraṇa-gnyaana-roopam
suraadim sukhaadim guṇesham gaṇesham
jagad-vyaapinam vishva-vandyam suresham
parabrahma-roopam gaṇesham bhajema (x2)
We worship Him who is the cause of the universe, the source of knowledge, the origin of the Devas, the source of happiness, the Lord of the guṇas, Shree Gaṇesha, who pervades the universe and is worshipped by all, the Lord of the gods, Shree Gaṇesha, the Supreme Brahman personified.
UPACHAARAS (Offerings)

eka-dantam shoorpa-karṇam
gaja-vaktram chaturbujam
paashaankusha-dharam devam
dhyaayet siddhi vinaayakam
I visualize Siddhi Vināyaka, elephant-faced, single-tusked, with ears like winnowing baskets, four-armed, wielding the noose and the goad.
aum shreeman mahaa-gaṇaadhipataye namaḥa
dhyaanam samarpayaami
I offer my salutations to Mahā Gaṇapati.
I contemplate you.
While offering a few grains of akshata to the mūrti:
aum shreeman mahaa-gaṇaadhipataye namaḥa
aavaahanam samarpayaami
I offer you an invocation.
Offering a few grains of akshata to the altar before chanting:
aum shreeman mahaa-gaṇaadhipataye namaḥa
ratna simhaasanam samarpayaami
I offer you a throne studded with jewels.
While offering an uddhariṇa of water to the mūrti:
aum shreeman mahaa-gaṇaadhipataye namaḥa
paadyam samarpayaami
I offer water to your feet.
While offering an uddhariṇa of water to the mūrti’s hands:
aum shreeman mahaa-gaṇaadhipataye namaḥa
arghyam samarpayaami
I offer water to your hands.
While offering an uddhariṇa of water to the mūrti:
aum shreeman mahaa-gaṇaadhipataye namaḥa
aachamaneeyam samarpayaami
I offer water to quench your thirst.
While offering an uddhariṇa of sweet drink to the mūrti:
aum shreeman mahaa-gaṇaadhipataye namaḥa
madhuparkam samarpayaami
I offer you a sweet drink.
While pouring an uddhariṇa of panchāmṛita over the mūrti:
aum shreeman mahaa-gaṇaadhipataye namaḥa
panchaamṛita snaanam samarpayaami
I offer five nectars for bathing—honey, sugar, milk, yogurt, and ghee.
While pouring an uddhariṇa of water over the mūrti:
aum shreeman mahaa-gaṇaadhipataye namaḥa
shuddhodaka snaanam samarpayaami
I offer clean water for bathing.
While offering an uddhariṇa of water to the mūrti:
aum shreeman mahaa-gaṇaadhipataye namaḥa
snaanaanantaram aachamaneeyam samarpayaami
I offer clean water to drink after bath.
While offering a clean piece of cloth or clothing to the mūrti:
aum shreeman mahaa-gaṇaadhipataye namaḥa
vastraan samarpayaami
I offer you fresh clothing.
While offering a new piece of string to the mūrti:
aum shreeman mahaa-gaṇaadhipataye namaḥa
yagnyopaveetam samarpayaami
I offer you a new upavīta (sacred thread).
While adorning the mūrti with a flower:
aum shreeman mahaa-gaṇaadhipataye namaḥa
aabharaṇam samarpayaami
I offer you decorative ornaments.
While applying sandal paste to the mūrti:
aum shreeman mahaa-gaṇaadhipataye namaḥa
gandhaan dhaarayaami
I adorn you in sandal paste.
While applying kumkuma to the mūrti:
aum shreeman mahaa-gaṇaadhipataye namaḥa
gandhasyopari haridraa kumkumam samarpayaami
I offer you kumkuma.

While offering incense to the mūrti:
aum shreeman mahaa-gaṇaadhipataye namaḥa
dhoopam aaghraapayaami
I offer fragrance in worship.
While offering deepa (lamp) to the mūrti:
aum shreeman mahaa-gaṇaadhipataye namaḥa
deepam darshayaami
I offer sacred light in worship.
While offering partially uncovered prasaada to the mūrti:
aum shreeman mahaa-gaṇaadhipataye namaḥa
naivedyam nivedayaami
I offer delicious food.
While sprinkling water from uddhariṇa onto food:
aum praaṇaaya svaahaa
apaanaaya svaahaa
vyaanaaya svaahaa

Hail to the elements that promote digestion. Hail to the creator Brahma.
While offering water to the mūrti:

madhye madhye paaneeyam samarpayaami
I offer water as you eat.
While sprinkling akshata on fruit and offering it to the mūrti:
aum shreeman mahaa-gaṇaadhipataye namaḥa
phalam samarpayaami
I offer you a fruit to eat.
While offering a betel leaf to the mūrti:
aum shreeman mahaa-gaṇaadhipataye namaḥa
taamboolam samarpayaami
I offer you a betel leaf for digestion.
While offering a coin to the mūrti:
aum shreeman mahaa-gaṇaadhipataye namaḥa
suvarna puṣhpam samarpayaami
I offer you gold in worship.
HINDI AARATI

You have a single tusk, are filled with compassion and have four hands.
You have a beautiful vermillion mark on Your forehead, and You ride on Your vehicle which is in the form of a mouse.
paan chaḍein, phool chaḍein, aur chaḍein mewaa
laduwan ka bhog lage, sant kare sevaa
Devotees offer you paan (betel leaves), flowers, mewa (dry fruits),
And sweets in the form of laddus; Saints offer devotional services to You.

PRADAKSHIṆA & NAMASKAARA
(Circumambulation and Prostration)
Stand and turn 3 times to the right, chanting the following verse;
then prostrate to the mūrti.
yaani kaani cha paapaani
janmaantara kṛitaani cha
taani taani vinashyanti
pradakshiṇam pade pade
Whatever sins I have committed in all lives, may they be absolved as I circumambulate.
PUṢHPAANJALI (Flower Offering)
(Chanted once, in unison)
While offerings flowers to the feet of the mūrti with folded hands:
aum vighneshvaraaya varadaaya sura-priyaaya
lambodaraaya sakalaaya jagad-hitaaya
naagaananaaya shruti-yagnya-vibhooṣhitaaya
gauri-sutaaya gaṇanaatha namo namaste
Salutations to the pot-bellied Gaṇeśa, son of Pārvatī, the one cares for the welfare of the entire universe, the elephant-faced one who is adorned by the Vedas and Yajñas, lord of obstacles, benefactor and beloved of the gods.
aum shreeman mahaa-gaṇaadhipataye namaḥa
puṣhpaanjalim samarpayaami
I offer you flowers with folded hands.
PRAARTHANA (Prayer)

vakratuṇḍa mahaakaaya
soorya koṭi samaprabha
nirvighnam kuru me deva
sarva kaaryeṣhu sarvadaa
O Lord with a curved trunk, a mighty body, and luster of a million suns, please make all of my endeavors free from obstacles at all times.
AATMA SAMARPAṆA (Surrender to the Lord)

tvameva maataa cha pitaa tvameva
tvameva bandhushcha sakhaa tvameva
tvameva vidyaa draviṇam tvameva
tvameva sarvam mama deva deva
You are my mother and my father; You are my relative and friend; You are my knowledge and my wealth; You are my all, O Lord of Lords.
kaayena vaachaa manasendriyairva
buddhyaatmanaa vaa prakṛite svabhaavaat
karomi yadyat sakalam parasmai
naaraayaṇaayeti samarpayaami
I dedicate everything to Lord Nārāyaṇa: whatever I perform with my body, speech, mind, limbs, intellect or my inner self either intentionally or unintentionally.

Lead me from the Unreal to the Real; from darkness (of ignorance) to light (of knowledge); from death (sense limitation) to immortality (limitlessness, liberation). May all beings everywhere be happy and free and may the thoughts, words, and actions of my own life contribute in some way to that happiness and to that freedom for all.
